ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Elmira College senior goaltender Elizabeth Hanson ’21 received United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Goalie of the Week honors after backstopping the Soaring Eagles to a 4-1 win over Nazareth College in their 2021 season-opener.

Hanson, who claimed the fourth Goalie of the Week award of her career, stopped 18 of 19 shots on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center, resulting in a .947 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average. After surrendering a goal late in the opening period, the Stoughton, Massachusetts, native held the Golden Flyers off of the scoreboard for the final 43:31. She also helped the EC defense stifle Naz’s power-play unit, which went 0-for-4 with an extra skater.

Among 11 qualified goalies in the UCHC, Hanson ranks first in goals-against average (1.00) and second in save percentage (.947), trailing only Utica College’s Angela Hawthorne by five-tenths of a percent.

The Elmira women’s ice hockey team continues UCHC action with a home-and-home series against Manhattanville College this weekend. The series begins on Friday, February 26, when the Valiants host the Soaring Eagles at 2:00 p.m. at the Playland Ice Casino.
