HAMILTON – For their efforts in helping Colgate earn a sweep of Capital District foes Rensselaer and Union last weekend, ECAC Hockey officials recognized Tylor Spink and Charlie Finn on Wednesday.

A native of Williamstown, Ont., Spink was named ECAC Player of the Week while Finn, a product of North Vancouver, B.C., took home Goaltender of the Week accolades.

Both were instrumental in guiding the Raiders to a 2-0 shutout of the then No. 17-ranked Engineers and a 2-1 victory over the Dutchmen. The games were the final contests for Colgate in Starr Rink as the 56-year-old facility gives way to Class of 1965 Arena for the start of the 2016-17 season.

Spink scored both goals in the Raiders triumph over the Engineers, finding the back of the net twice during the opening 9:05 of the contest. Spink’s first goal, coming just 1:42 into the contest, was his first game-winning goal of the campaign. He added a primary assist on twin brother Tyson’s goal in Colgate’s 2-1 victory versus the Dutchmen.

Finn, meanwhile, stopped 58-of-59 shots faced during the two-game set. He turned aside all 25 shots he faced against the Engineers to record his first shutout of the season and eighth of his career, moving him into a tie for second place on the program’s career shutout listing. In the regular-season finale versus the Dutchmen, Finn made 33 saves to propel the Raiders to their one-goal triumph.

Tenth-seeded Colgate (10-22-2) opens the 2016 ECAC Hockey Championship this weekend with a first round series at seventh-seeded Dartmouth (14-14-1). The best-of-three series takes place March 4-6 at Thompson Arena.
