Dutchwomen Tie U of Maine, 2-2

ORONO, ME—The Union College women’s ice hockey team closed out the 2015 calendar year with a 2-2 tie with the University of Maine.

Melissa Black contributed 29 saves in the tie, including double-digit saves in the first and third period.

The Black Bears scored about halfway through the first period on a short-handed goal. Audra Richards and Emilie Brigham assisted Alyson Matteau’s breakaway goal. Less than
two minutes later, Elizabeth Otten scored on a power-play opportunity. Brandy Streeter and Kathryn assisted in Otten’s goal shot from the point.

Union and Maine entered the second period tied at one. The Black Bears added a goal just 58 seconds into the period. Maine’s Brooke Stacey took a shot from the point that ricocheted into the back of the net. The second period ended with Maine leading 2-1.

Seven minutes into the third period, Union’s Alli Devins tied it up at two when she took a shot from the point that came off the top shelf. Devins’ goal was assisted from Jamie
Smith.

Devin’s goal forced overtime between the two teams. The teams combined for seven shots with three saves.

The Dutchwomen return to Messa Rink on January 2 as they take on Vermont at 4 p.m.
