FREDONIA, N.Y. — Fredonia put in a consistent effort while downing SUNY Canton, 5-1, in non-conference men’s hockey Friday at Steele Hall.

Five different players had goals for the Blue Devils (6-5-1) while sophomore goaltender Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) made 36 saves as he improved to 4-0 this season. He earned the No. 2 star.

Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) and Josh Biasillo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) each had a goal and an assist to earn the No. 1 and No. 3 stars, respectively. In addition, Max Blitz (Chino Hills, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal. Victor Tracy (Stockholm, Sweden) and Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden) also had goals.

Stuart Fierheller had the lone goal for the Roos (2-8-0), who fell to the Blue Devils 5-4 in overtime two weekends ago at the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational.

The Blue Devils owned a 25-8 advantage in shots after the first period, yet only a 1-0 lead. The goal by Tracy, his fifth of the season, came on a power play at 7:54, with a slapshot from the right point which whistled through a screen of players in front of SUNY Canton starting goaltender Austin Washkurak.

Blitz made it 2-0 at 1:12 of the second period with a shot from the right slot after a teammate’s stopped shot from the left point rebounded to him. It was his first goal of the season and his second as a collegian. The Roos had a chance a few minutes later to cut their deficit in half when Tyler Bullard broke in alone, only to have Rosen make a glove save. Before the period was over, Biasillo scored a short-handed goal — the third by Fredonia in the last two games — on a 2-on-1 rush out of the defensive end. It was his third goal of the year.

Morgan’s fifth goal of the season came at 1:51 of the third period, a wrister from top of the right faceoff circle. The Roos finally broke through at 11:34 while Fierheller scored from the left circle and ruined what would have been Rosen’s first collegiate shutout. Gerhardson completed the scoring less than a minute later with his first goal of the season.

Fredonia finished with a 51-37 shot advantage and killed all six SUNY Canton power plays. Washkurak made 39 saves in the Roos’ net and Josh Erickson made seven in the final 7:28.

The Blue Devils and Roos complete their weekend series Saturday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. back at Steele Hall.
