The Devils had their four-game winning streak halted, but extended their point streak to five games. Overall, Albany moved to 37-5-3-1, while Providence improved to 31-19-9-3.

During the shootout, the Bruins received goals from Brian Ferlin and Alexander Khokhlachev. Matt Lorito and Jim O’Brien were both denied.

All the scoring in regulation came during the same power play. Vojtech Mozik was called for hooking midway through the third period, giving the top power play unit its second opportunity of the game. However, it was the top penalty kill unit that struck first. Pietila labored the puck forward and chipped it towards center ice, freeing O’Brien. He gained the red line and fired a shot off the left post and in at 10:19. The goal was Albany’s fifth shorthanded tally of the season and O’Brien’s second. The tally also extended O’Brien’s point streak to four games, producing three goals and four helpers.

Before Mozik was released, the Bruins pulled even when Austin Czarnik picked up a rebound and shuffled a pass to Brandon DeFazio in front at 11:30.

Albany and Providence join Chicago as the only teams in the league to play in 18 overtime games. The Devils are now 8-0-8-1, while the Bruins are 6-0-9-3.
