UTICA, NY – Freshmen classmates Hayden Dawes (Stony Plain, Alberta/Drayton Valley (AJHL)) and Michael Fredrick (Lethbridge, Alberta/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) of the Utica College men’s hockey team were named to ECAC West All-Conference teams on Tuesday. Dawes became the third Pioneer in program-history to earn the Conference’s Rookie of the Year award and he was also named to the ECAC West All-Rookie team. Fredrick was named to the All-Conference Second Team and was also an All-Rookie team selection.

Dawes, a forward, leads Utica with 10 points in conference play (five goals, five assists) and 17 points overall (nine goals, eight assists), with the Alberta native’s 10 points in league play also leading all ECAC West rookies. He began his career with 13 points in his first 12 collegiate games. Dawes is just the third player in the program’s 15 year history to earn Rookie of the Year honors as he joins former Rookie of the Year picks Tim Coffman (2009) and Nick Lynch (2005).

Goalie Michael Fredrick (Lethbridge, Alberta/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) has started in 24 of the 25 games this year for the Pioneers and holds a 12-8-4 record. Fredrick ranks 18th nationally in save percentage (711 saves, .933), and 24th in goals against average (2.11). He finished the regular season as the league leader in minutes played (1451:23). He is now the first goalie in program-history to record over 700 saves in a single season (711). His .933 save percentage ranks second all-time in a single season at UC and his 12 wins are tied for fourth all-time in the College’s single season record book.

The Pioneers (12-9-4) return to action Wednesday as they host sixth seeded Elmira College in the first round of the ECAC West Conference Tournament at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8/Adults, $4/ Students (Any College Student w/ ID) or children 18 and under and can be purchased at the Auditorium Box Office
