SUNY Cortland sophomore Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie HS) has been chosen as the Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) Goalie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4.

In her lone game of the week last Friday in Cortland, Goergen turned aside 30 shots as the Red Dragons handed nationally fourth-ranked Plattsburgh its first-ever NEWHL loss, 1-0, breaking a 72-0-2 streak for the Cardinals.

After Cortland took the lead just past the midway point of the second period, Goergen stopped 13 shots to close out the period and made nine saves in the third period, including two in the final minute while Plattsburgh had an extra skater, to preserve the victory. The shutout is Goergen’s third of the season and her eighth in just one-plus years, tying the school’s modern-era program record.
