Cortland ties Chatham U

PITTSBURGH, PA. – Junior Corey Temple (Troy, MI/Ohio Flames) scored the game-tying goal midway through the second period as the Cortland women’s ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie in ECAC West action Saturday afternoon at Chatham University.

Junior Katie Gili (Brooklyn/New Jersey Rockets) assisted on the goal for the Red Dragons (5-11-2, 4-6-2 ECAC West). Sophomore goalie Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 27 saves.

Katrina Hawkins netted the goal for the Cougars (7-11-1, 2-9-1) with McKenzie Haskins and Marissa Janiga recording assists. Goalie Megan Buchanan made 26 saves.

Hawkins gave Chatham a 1-0 lead at 11:07 of the opening period. The lead help up until Temple tied the game on the power play with her fourth goal of the season at 10:10 of the second period. Neither team was able to net the game-winner over the final 34:50 and the score held at 1-1.

Cortland returns to action on Tuesday, hosting SUNY Canton in a non-conference game at 7 p.m..
