BUFFALO, N.Y. – Junior goalie Drew Weigman (Annapolis, MD/Northern Cyclones) turned aside 36 shots, and Cortland scored three third-period goals as the Red Dragons upended nationally 11th-ranked Buffalo St. in SUNYAC men’s hockey action Friday night. The Red Dragons improved to 5-5-1 overall and 3-3 in the conference with the win, while the Bengals fell to 8-3-1 and 4-2-1.

Freshman Sean Perichak (Oakville, ON/Markham Royals) scored the game-winning goal for the Red Dragons on the power play. Freshman Connor Beck (Richmond Hill, ON/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) and junior Tommy Nolan (Mahopac/Connecticut Oilers) each added an empty-net goal. Sophomore Mike Crowley (Buffalo/Springfield Blues) recorded two assists, and senior Casie Garrison (Cortland/Philadelphia Revolution) and freshman Tony DeVito (Chicago, IL/New Jersey Titans) chipped in with one assist apiece.

Buffalo St. goalie Mike DeLaVergne made 29 saves.

The teams played scoreless hockey through the first two periods with the Bengals holding a slim 24-23 shot advantage. Cortland netted the game winner at 4:52 of the third period just four seconds after a Buffalo St. penalty. Crowley won the ensuing faceoff back to DeVito, who sent the puck toward goal where Perichak deflected a shot past DeLaVergne.

With time winding down, the Bengals pulled DeLavergne for an extra skater, but Beck scored his goal at 18:48. Fifty-two seconds later, Nolan iced the game with his second goal of the season at 19:40 as the Red Dragons knocked off their second nationally ranked team of the season.
