PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 8 women’s hockey team fended off No. 10 Providence, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena. Maddie Mills and Kristin O’Neill both netted a goal each in the second period to lead the team’s efforts.

Mills set the tone for the game, securing her score four minutes and 39 seconds into the second stanza to put the Big Red up 1-0. O’Neill and Brianna Veerman were both credited with assists on the goal.

O’Neill would find the score sheet once again as she lit the lamp with two minutes remaining in the second frame off of feeds from Grace Graham and Willow Slobodzian.

Providence notched its lone goal of the game 16:46 into the second period as Christina Putigna put the Friars on the up on the board to tie the game up 1-1.

Marlene Boissonnault came away with 22 saves on the day while Cornell’s offensive efforts were relentless, forcing Providence’s Madison Myers to make 38 total saves.
