CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Maggie Corbett (Queensbury/Queensbury H.S.) scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of the third period, and senior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) stopped 41 shots to become just the second player in program history to reach 2,000 saves in her career as the Cortland women’s ice hockey team defeated Chatham, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena in ECAC West action.

Meunier now has 2,024 saves, second only to Katie Double who registered 2,084 saves from 2008-12.

Senior Niamh O’Connor (Paramus, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) and junior Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) also scored goals for the Red Dragons (9-7-1, 5-6-1 ECAC West). Senior Kaitlyn Ryan (Windsor/Adrian College) collected two assists, and senior Laura Drew (Andover, MA/Canterbury School) picked up her team-high eighth assist of the season.

Senior Katrina Hawkins (Powell River, BC/Brooks Secondary) and junior Erika Martin (Fairbanks, AK/Team Alaska) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Cougars (6-11-1, 2-9-1). Junior McKenzie Haskins (Anchorage, AK/Team Alaska) and freshman Jillian Rowland (St. Louis, MO/Chicago Fury) contributed one assist apiece. Sophomore goalie Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, ON/Thunder Bay Queens) made 20 saves.

Hawkins gave Chatham a 1-0 lead on the power play at 12:40 of the first period, wristing a shot off the crossbar. Carlucci tied the score at 2:18 of the second period when she forced a turnover in front of the Chatham goal and slipped a backhand shot through Isbell’s pads.Martin gave the Cougars back the lead with a wrist shot to the top corner on the power play at 9:41 of the period, but O’Connor evened the score at 2-2 with a deflection in front at 10:39, also on the power play.

Corbett notched the game winner at the 53-second mark of the third period when she converted a pass from Ryan right in front while Cortland skated on the power play. The Red Dragons were called for a penalty with 1:18 remaining in regulation, and Chatham pulled Isbell for an extra skater for a two-player advantage on the ice but could not beat Meunier to send the game to overtime and Cortland held on for the win and the weekend sweep.
