After helping the Canisius College hockey team to a win in a quarterfinal series against second-seeded Bentley, freshman Shane Conacher (Burlington, Ontario) was honored with Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week accolades, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Conacher recorded four points in the three-game series, scoring one goal to go along with three assists. In Saturday’s 5-4 double-overtime rally, the rookie recorded a personal-best three points on a goal and two assists. He posted two points in the third period, including the game-tying goal with 4:05 remaining, as Canisius rallied from a 4-1 deficit to force overtime. Conacher then added an assist on the series-winning goal in Sunday’s 3-2 victory.

In 30 games as a freshman, Conacher has totaled 20 points, five goals and 15 assists. He currently ranks 26th nationally among rookies with 0.67 points per game and fifth in Atlantic Hockey.

Conacher now turns his attention toward the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals where Canisius will attempt to defend its conference title. The Griffs face top-seeded Mercyhurst on Friday at 4:05 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y.
