Colgate Comes Back To Defeat Union, 4-2

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Colgate scored twice in a 16 second span midway through the third period to erase a one-goal deficit and defeat Union, 4-2, in ECAC Hockey action Friday at Messa Rink.

Trailing 2-1 with less than nine minutes remaining in the contest, Tim Harrison and Tyson Spink found the net on back-to-back shifts to put the Raiders ahead for good.

Harrison began the game-changing sequence at the 11:04 mark, netting his second goal of the evening with a power-play tally to tie the game at 2-2.

Tyson Spink put the Raiders in front, 3-2, just 16 seconds later when he knocked home a loose puck for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Tylor Spink closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 11 seconds to play. The goal was the 100th point of his career.

The two teams got off to a wild start, trading goals during a 21-second span in the opening 1:10 of the contest.

Brett Supinski gave the Dutchmen a 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the contest, finding the back of the net during a delayed-penalty situation for his fifth goal of the season.

Harrison brought the Raiders level on the next shift, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity while Colgate was shorthanded to make it a 1-1 contest.

Union took a 2-1 lead 2:30 into the second period. Nick DeSimone fired home a slap shot from the left point during a 4-on-4 sequence for his second goal of the season.

Charlie Finn made 30 saves between the pipes for Colgate. Alex Sakellaropoulos recorded 23 stops in goal for Union.

“I thought we had a good first period. We struggled to get pucks to the net in the second. We talked about trying to get one power play goal, figuring it would be a big one and we finally got the puck to the net on the power play and Tim Harrison finished it off.

“I was pleased with our effort. Obviously we had a short bench. Been playing three lines a lot and we got some huge efforts tonight.”
