BELFAST, Northern Ireland – Brown scored four times during the second period to break open a scoreless contest and cruise to a 5-0 victory over Colgate in the opening game of the Friendship Four Tournament Friday at SSE Arena.

After playing a scoreless first period, the Bears came alive during the middle frame, finding the back of the net four times in a span of 12:51 to take control.

Tommy Marchin netted three of the four goals tallied during Brown’s second-period outburst, opening the scoring at the 3:56 mark before notching the third and four goals of the frame to complete his first career hat trick. Mark Naclerio was credited with the other Bears goal in the second and also added a pair of assists.

Tyler Bird closed out the scoring with a power play goal 1:37 into the third period.

Tim Ernst recorded 14 saves between the pipes for Brown to post his first shutout of the season. Charlie Finn got the start in goal for Colgate and made 19 saves.

“We were not very good tonight. Clearly Brown was the better team. I know we’re a much better team than that. I thought we had a decent 20 minutes to start the game, maybe if a couple of those shots go in it’s a different game.”
