Canisius junior goaltender Jacob Barczewski has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Goaltender of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

The honor marked the second consecutive week that the O’Fallon, Mo., native has been recognized as the circuit’s best netminder.

Barczewski posted a 1.50 goals against average and a .945 save percentage as he stopped 52-of-55 shots faced in helping lead Canisius to a sweep of RIT last weekend at LECOM Harborcenter.  He made 24 saves in a 5-2 victory over the Tigers in the opener, turning aside the final 19 shots he faced after RIT netted a pair of power-play goals midway through the first period.  Barczewski also recorded an assist in the series-opening win, picking up the secondary assist on fellow junior Keaton Mastrodonato’s empty-net marker late in the third.

In the series finale on Saturday, Barczewski turned aside the first 28 shots he faced to keep the Tigers off the board before a power-play goal in the final 30 seconds of regulation spoiled his shutout bid.

Through the first four games of conference play this season, Barczewski has posted a 2.01 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. Of the eight goals scored against him thus far in league play, only two have been during 5-on-5 play.

Canisius (6-4-1, 3-1-0 AHA) returns to action this weekend as it takes on longtime rival Mercyhurst in a home-and-home series. The Griffs and Lakers open the series Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center before the series shifts to LECOM Harborcenter Saturday for the finale. Puck drop for both contests is slated for 7 p.m.
