BURRISS EARNS CHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Syracuse freshman forward Alysha Burriss has been named the CHA Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Burriss scored Syracuse’s lone goal in the Orange’s 1-1 tie with No. 9 Mercyhurst on Friday. It marked her fourth goal in her last two conference games after finishing the first semester with a hat trick against RIT and her second-straight game with a goal.

The CHA Rookie of the Month for December, Burriss now has nine goals and eight assists on the season for 17 points, good for second on the Orange behind fellow rookie Stephanie Grossi’s 21.

Burriss and Grossi are the only freshman tandem in the nation to combine for over 35 points while also ranking as the top-two scorers on their team.

Grossi and Burriss rank first and third in scoring amongst rookies in the league respectively.

Burriss will look to continue her hot streak in league play on Friday when Syracuse takes on RIT at 7 p.m. in Rochester.
