BUFFALO, N.Y. – Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) netted her fourth career hat trick as Buffalo State scored six unanswered goals to cruise to a 6-2 victory over Canton in a non-conference matchup on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Canton opened up the scoring in the first period with a one-timer.
Buffalo State quickly countered and tied the score as Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIH Academy (ON)) collected a rebound off the initial shot and kicked the puck to Caitie Horvatits (Elma, NY/Iroquois) for the one-timer.
The Bengals took the lead as Gehen knocked in a rebound off the shot from Emily DeCock (Ramara, ON/Patrick Fogarty) with less than five minutes left in the period. DeCock and Rachel Lenard (Orchard Park, NY/Nardin) picked up assists.
Gehen added her second goal with a rebound off the initial shot from Steinle to push the lead to 3-1 at the end of the second period. Steinle and Olivia Smith (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) recorded assists on the play.
Buffalo State increased its lead to 4-1 with 15 minutes left in the third frame as Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) scored her second goal of the season, unassisted.
Just over a minute later, Gehen completed her hat trick with a power play goal. Lenard and Madeline Kromer (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) each added assists.
Emma Ruggiero (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) scored her second goal of the season and Buffalo State’s last to seal the win.
The Bengals finished with a 42-24 advantage in shots and was 2-7 on power play chances.
Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) earned the win in net, making 22 saves.

FOR THE FOES:
Breanna Bedborough and Sydney Jordan each scored to lead the Canton offense. Hannah Brady, Grace Page, and Ashley Gillies each picked up assists.
Brooke Susac picked up the loss in net, making 26 saves. Kristen Caporusso recorded 10 saves in the final 14 minutes.
