UTICA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 9 Norwich University women’s hockey team skated to a 2-0 victory over host Utica College in non-conference action at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Sunday. Both of the Cadet goals came in the third period of play.

Utica, who returned from a 28 day semester break, will be back on the ice on Friday when they travel to Middlebury for a 4 p.m. contest. The Pioneers’ record moved to 9-4-1 overall on the year, while Norwich improved to 8-4 overall and bounced back from a 2-1 loss at Elmira on Saturday night.

The two Norwich third period goals came from Adelle Murphy and Rachel Bellio. Murphy stuffed home a loose puck in front just 4:10 into the period, assisted by Bryn Labbe and Robyn Foley. Bellio’s goal came on a breakway after stealing a pass at the top of the Pioneers’ offensive zone and taking it the length of the ice for her fourth goal of the season.

Norwich sophomore goalie Laurie King delivered an impressive shut out performance as she stopped all 27 shots she faced to earn her fourth win of the season.

Utica goalie Kiera Goin stopped 23 shots in the loss. Norwich finished the night 1-for-5 on the power-play while Utica went 0-for-3.

The Pioneers debuted their Gold Ribbon game uniforms that are currently being auctioned. UC will once again “Go Gold” as it hosts the 4th annual Shawn Grady Fund Gold Ribbon Game for childhood cancer awareness on Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m. as UC faces off against ECAC West Conference foe, Neumann University. The Pioneers will be wearing their special edition gold ribbon uniforms at all home games throughout the month of January to show their support for all those fighting childhood cancer. The jerseys are being auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to help ease the medical costs of a local family that is currently dealing with the disease.

Fans can bid on the Utica College jerseys online (HERE) leading up to the game, as well as in the arena the night of the event. The minimum bid for a gold ribbon jersey is $100 and you can also purchase the jersey immediately for $300. Bidding must be made in increments of $5.
