BROOKLYN – The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Jean-Francois Berube has agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
Berube, 24, made his NHL debut with the Islanders last season, posting a 3-2-1 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in seven games. The Islanders claimed Berube off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on October 6, 2015.
A native of Repentigny, QC, Berube led the American Hockey League with 37 wins in 2014-15 and backstopped the Manchester Monarchs to a Calder Cup Championship. He posted a 37-9-4 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage during the regular season, before going 13-3 in the playoffs en route to the AHL’s top prize.
The Los Angeles Kings selected Berube in the fourth round (95th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft. He played three seasons of junior hockey with the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2008-09 to 2010-11.
Berube spent the majority of his first two professional seasons with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL in 2011-12 and 2012-13. In 2013-14, he played 48 games with Manchester in his first full AHL season, posting a 28-17-2 record with a 2.37 GAA and a .913 SV%.
