ALBANY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced the winner of this year’s Player of the Year award, and Morgan Barron (Cornell University) has been honored.

This is the first time since 2005 (David McKee) that a Big Red player has been honored with this award. He’s the first Cornell skater to earn the award since Joe Nieuwendyk in 1987.

Barron (Jr. – Halifax, N.S.) recorded 32 points in 2019-20, including 22 (11G, 11A) during league play. His +17 plus-minus rating was third amongst ECAC Hockey forwards, while his 14 goals was tied for fifth. The junior was the offensive leader of a Cornell team that spent much of the season ranked No. 1 in the nation, and ranked second in scoring margin (2.03).

The New York Rangers draft pick is now a 2x First-Team All-League selection, and was named a top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award earlier this week.

The remainder of this year’s ECAC Hockey men’s major award winners will be announced throughout the week.
