ALBANY, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators fell 3-2 to the Albany Devils following a five-round shootout in the first road game of the year Friday night.

The B-Sens opened the scoring 6:11 into the first period after Ryan Rupert scored his first goal of the year. Rupert pulled the puck back off a faceoff and found Vincent Dunn along the wall. Dunn then fed it over to Andreas Englund who sent a shot to the net that was deflected by Rupert to give Binghamton the lead. Englund and Dunn recorded their first American Hockey League point with the helpers.

Albany answered back a little over two minutes later when Ben Sexton batted a shot from Rod Pelley past Chris Driedger. The home team pushed it to a 2-1 lead with less than six minutes remaining after Seth Helgeson took a pass from the left wall and sent a one timer from just inside the blue line. The B-Sens went to the first intermission being outshot 10-7.

Following a scoreless second period, Curtis Lazar tied up the game 2-2 with 11:45 remaining to play. The puck went out to Lazar in the left wing circle after a shuffle in front of the net, who then rocketed a shot over the left shoulder of Ken Appleby. Michael Blunden and Nick Paul picked up the assists on Lazar’s first goal of the season.

Both teams were held scoreless through the remaining final frame and a five-minute overtime to push the game to the B-Sens first shootout of the season. Despite Lazar scoring in the first round, the Devils took the game 3-2 after a five-round shootout with the final goal being scored by Blake Pietila.

Binghamton returns home tomorrow night to face the Rochester Americans for Miracles on Ice Night. Also, it’s Olum’s Giveaway Night! Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
