A strong set of performances over the first month of the season led to Alex Wilkinson, Brian Wilson, and Matt Barry being named Atlantic Hockey monthly award winners.

Player of the Month

Alex Wilkinson – Army West Point
Junior, Defense – Raleigh, NC/CT Oilers

Alex Wilkinson has arguably been Army’s best player through the first month of the season as the Black Knights have jumped out to an early lead in the Atlantic Hockey standings. He is tied for the team lead and conference lead in points (9) and assists (7) while also scoring two goals on just six shots. Wilkinson is logging the most ice time of any Army player, playing in all situations, including leading a penalty-kill unit that is third in the league at 86.5 percent. Wilkinson also has 16 blocks in seven games, including back-to-back games with four blocks, both wins for Army, to close out the month.

Goalie of the Month

Brian Wilson – Niagara
Sophomore, Goalie – Pickering, ONT/Powell River Kings

Brian Wilson has been instrumental to Niagara’s strong start in league play, going 2-2-0 in four starts, all against AHA opponents. He leads the league in both goals against average and save percentage through October and has one shutout under his belt. Nationally, he is 10th in goals against average among goalies who have played over 200 minutes and 14th in save percentage. His shutout came last week on the road at Air Force as Wilson stopped all 39 shots faced to lead the Purple Eagles to a 5-0 win. He completed a 71-save weekend in a 2-1 loss the following night.

Rookie of the Week

Matt Barry – Holy Cross
Freshman, Forward – Naperville, IL/Youngstown Phantoms

Matt Barry is off to a strong start to his collegiate career, recording seven points in his first five games for Holy Cross. Barry is tied with two others in Atlantic Hockey for the lead in scoring average while ranking tied for third in overall points. Barry ranks first in Atlantic Hockey and fifth in the country in freshman scoring. He had points in four of the five October games including two multi-point efforts. His lone multi-goal effort came in a close, one-goal loss to Canisius on October 13th.
