Hades Crown by Santo Miguel Coral, Cubic Zircona
An eerie painting of The Venerable Pope John Paul II (Karol Józef Wojtyla) lying in state after his death in 2005 raised eyebrows at launch of the TempleTwentyTen Art Exhibition at The Q (Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre) on Monday 12 April.
The painting is just one of over 60 highly creative art pieces on display by Miguel, who is known for his intricate interpretations of crowns and weaponry noted in mythological texts. Shiva’s Ruby has a $9,999 price tag, and other pieces, laden with precious gems, make his pieces intricate and a collector’s dream.
In an experiment to test the viability of three creatively diverse artistic points of view presented in the one space, Santo Miguel invited intuitive artist Shanna Provost and jewellery artisan Miss Betty to join him for the unique exhibition.
Deputy Mayor Sue Whelan said the exhibition the exhibition was one of the most dynamic to have been presented in The Q gallery and wished the artists well.
Provost uses a myriad of techniques and materials to bring Nature to life in her highly colourful relief artwork.
Miss Betty’s handmade beads and jewellery reflect the colours and textures in both Miguel’s and Provost’s art to build a bridge between the two.
