Freshman forward Ryan Mahshie earns Rookie of the Week from ECAC Hockey

TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly award winners from men’s hockey and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Ryan Mahshie has been named Rookie of the Week.

A freshman forward from Stoney Creek, Ont., Mahshie netted goals in each of his first two collegiate games to help the Engineers to a 1-1 week. He scored the eventual game-winning goal on three shots in RPI’s 5-3 victory at UConn on Saturday afternoon. In Friday’s season opening 5-3 defeat at No. 4 UMass, he netted his first collegiate tally, while recording one shot and posting a +1 rating.

In two games this season, Mahshie has two goals for two points, with four shots and a +1 rating. He has yet to take a penalty in his RPI career.

A former standout with the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL, Mahshie recorded 65 points on 34 goals and 31 assists in just 57 games during the 2018-19 season. Named the team’s Top Forward, he notched two goals and three assists in seven playoff contests, helping the team to an AHJL Championship.

Rensselaer returns to the ice this weekend, when it hosts UConn and Canisius on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (7pm), respectively, for Family Weekend.
