Hobart College junior Jonas Toupal scored two goals to lead the No. 12/13 Statesmen hockey team to a 4-2 NEHC victory at Skidmore tonight. The Statesmen improve to 5-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play.

The Thoroughbreds are now 1-8-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the NEHC. Junior Tanner Shaw added two assists in the win for Hobart. Sophomore Alexander Connal made 25 saves in all 60 minutes in goal.

Toupal gave the Statesmen a 1-0 advantage 12:11 into the first period. Shaw set up the play. At 5:37 into the second period, senior Jordan Haskell capitalized on a Hobart power-play to make it 2-0. Sophomore Julien Denicourt was credited with the assist. John Litscher broke through for Skidmore just under two minutes later. Corey Morgan earned the assist on the Thoroughbred’s first goal. Adam Moodie tied things up at 2-2 after a pass from Matt Muzyka with 3:24 left in the second period.

Toupal took back the lead for Hobart 8:02 into the third period. Sophomore Zach Sternbach and Shaw logged the assists. With 24 seconds left in regulation, senior Vincent Russo added the empty net goal for the Statesmen.

Hobart finished with a 40-27 advantage in shots. The Statesmen finished 1-for-9 on the power play and killed off all six of the Thoroughbred’s power-play attempts. Brandon Kasel made 36 saves in goal for Skidmore.

Hobart and Skidmore will play another NEHC game tomorrow, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in The Cooler.
