Canucks Assign Defenseman Alex Biega To Comets For Conditioning

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has assigned defenceman Alex Biega to the AHL Utica Comets on a conditioning assignment.

Biega, 28, has appeared in one game for the Canucks this season (0-0-0). In 2015.16, he registered seven assists and 22 penalty minutes in 51 games with Vancouver and six points (1-5-6) and eight penalty minutes in 14 games with Utica. The 5-10, 193-pound defenceman made his debut with the Canucks during the 2014.15 season, appearing in seven games and notching a game-winning goal.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Biega was selected by Buffalo in the fifth round, 147th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He originally signed with Vancouver as free agent on July 5, 2013 and signed a two-year contract extension on February 2, 2016. -30-
