CANTON, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey team took SUNY Canton in to overtime for a second time in as many nights, this time skating away with the 3-2 thrilling victory as they topped the Roos on their home ice in Canton.

Steven Dombrosky (Elizabethtown, Pa.) recorded the win with a 40 save performance in net for the Mustangs, who up their record to 2-9-1 overall.

Ian Wood (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted the first goal of the night for Morrisville State, notching the tally just 2:55 into the opening period for the early 1-0 Mustang lead.

Canton responded midway through the period to tie the contest at one on a score by Dylan Rosen.

Just 1:27 into the second period, Layne Martin (Findlay, Ohio) regained the lead for Morrisville State, firing the puck past Canton netminder Luis Puig for the go ahead tally. Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) and David Landau (Newtown, Conn.) were credited with the assists.

Late in the third period, Canton posted the equalizer to force the overtime period for a second time on the weekend, as Nick Lepone found the back of the net at the 16:08 mark.

Canton had the chance to post the victory early on in the extra frame, but the Lepone shot was turned away by Dombrosky and seconds later, Morrisville State converted on the offensive end of the ice for the win. CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Utah) collected the game winner just 54 seconds into the overtime period to give the Mustangs the win.

Morrisville State returns to the ice January 3rd at Utica following the holiday break.
