CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Mairead Carey (Ijamsville, MD/Oakdale H.S.) scored the second of her two goals midway through overtime to lift the Hamilton women’s ice hockey team to a come-from-behind 3-2 win at Cortland Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Continentals improved to 2-4-2 with the win, while the Red Dragons fell to 2-7-1.

Sophomores Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) and Makenzie Wright (Burlington, ON/New Jersey Rockets) netted goals for Cortland with senior Gwen Paul (Incline Village, NV/San Jose Sharks) and sophomore Sarah Hamilton (Rutland, VT/Vermont Shamrocks) each recording an assist. Sophomore goalie Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 34 saves.

Junior Hannah Bartlett (Marshfield, MA/St. Mark’s) also tallied a goal for Hamilton, and junior Megan Fitzgerald (Great Falls, VA/Madeira School) contributed an assist. Senior goalie Sarah Schuchardt (Verona, WI/Phillips Academy) made 13 saves.

The Red Dragons took a 2-0 lead after one period of play. Carlucci opened the scoring with her first goal of the season at 6:53, lifting a loose puck in front over Schuchardt. Wright scored her second goal of the season at 13:45, wristing a shot from the left point through traffic and inside the left post.

After a scoreless second period, Carey put the Continentals on the scoreboard at 4:38 of the third period with a shot from the right circle into the open right side of the net. Bartlett tied the game at 13:12 when she knocked in a loose puck in front. At the end of the period, Cortland was able to kill off 1:09 of a two-player Hamilton power play to send the game to overtime.

After the Red Dragons denied 51 seconds of power-play time for Hamilton to start the extra session, Carey netted the game-winner at 2:28 with a shot from the right point that found the back of the net through a screen in front.
