WNYGVIH Heading to Playoff Time

Senior nights, WNY honors, special visitors, a change in coaching and a battle for the Championship were all in play this past week.

 

Clarence/Amherst/SweetHome (CASH) held the first Senior night and honored three players who have given so much to the team and not move on to another phase in their adult life. Congratulations to Nicole Moore, Renee Lauer, Claire Goods, Casey Adimey, Jamie King and Gina DeNisco.

 

Over at Lincoln Arena several members of the Pink Storm Hockey Team spent the evening with the Kenmore/Grand Island players dressing in old KGI jerseys, enjoying Pink Cupcakes and then meeting with Coach Jeff and enjoying locker room talk with the KGI players before their game. They then enjoyed an action-packed game, but unfortunately a loss for the home team.

 

CASH’s Emma Faso is in the WNYGVIH history books as not only having a Hat Trick but hitting the 100 point mark with 54 goals and 46 assists. Congratulations Emma.

 

The League also made the news with a feature on Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca’s Adriana “Sissy” Harman as she made 69 saves in a single game against Frontier/Lakeshore/Orchard Park;  breaking the Federation’s record.

 

Harman was also named WKBW Super 7 Athlete of the Week

 

On  January 17 Kayla Blas of Monsignor Martin was named the Buffalo News Prep Talk Female Athlete of the Week after a week of 5 goals/3 assists in games against KGI, HEWS and FLOP.

 

In addition to all that off-ice action, Tom Ferro was named Head Coach of the HEWS team and John Miller will assist along with Danielle Gehen.

 

With 11 games left in the regular schedule Frontier/LakeShore/Orchard Park (FLOP) sits in first p;lace in the League, as well as the Section. After 15 games played they have 35 points with 10 with a 10 wins; 1 loss; 3 ties; no OT win and 1 OT loss.

 

Monsignor Martin sits in Second place in the League, but according to NYS rules, they are not considered in the Sectional line-up. MM is 9-1-2-0-1 after 13 games played and have 31 points.

 

Williamsville sits in 2nd place in Section VI play and 3rd idn the League with 14 games played and a 8-4-1-1-0 record and 27.5 points.

 

Next up is CASH followed by Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew (LID), Kenmore/Grand Island (KGI) and Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca (HEWS).

 

On the Leader Board is Emma Faso (CASH) with 15 goals/11 assists and 26 points this season. Following her is teammate Charleigh Rondeau with 15 goals/10 assists for 25 points.

 

Goaltending has been a key factor this season with this young ladies standing on their heads to make saves. No goalie has had any rest when working between the pipes.

 

Ellie Simmons of KGI has seen 505.40 minutes in the nets and managed to pull out two shutouts. Also posting 2 shut outs each were Williamsville’s Jenna Lukomski, Monsignor Martin’s Grace Harrington.

 

With stats in place its Sydney Olschewski of Williamsville with a 1.00 Save % and 0.00 GAA in her 22.53 minutes of play. She also was awarced a .5 shutout.

 

Last week began with Kenmore/Grand Island shutting out HEWS 6-0 for their first win of the season. Kaylynn Savoy had two goals and an assist in that game and HEWS Sissy Harman made 30 saves on 36 SOG. Ellie Simmons had the shutout with 18 saves.

 

Tuesday evening it was Williamsville 6; CASH 3 and Monsignor Martin 3-2 over LID. LID’s Maddy Moran had both goals for LID. For Wiliiamsville it was Senior Holly Schmelzer who had 3 goals including 2 unassisted.

 

In the third game on Tuesday it was FLOP taking a 5-0 shutout from Kenmore/Grand Island.

 

Monsignor Martin faced Williamsville on Wednesday beating them 4-2 and in a make-up game LID beat HEWS 4-0 with Sophie Will getting the shutout withf 21 saves.

 

Thursday evening is always an actioned pack night with three games, including CASH’s senior night.

 

First up was LID at FLOP and a 4-3 victory for the first placer FLOP team. A 2-2 overtime tie for Kenmore/Grand Island at Monsignor Martin. Harrington with 40 saves on 42 shots and Simmons with 32 saves on 34 shots for KGI.

 

Over at Northtowns Faso has her hat trick and hits her 100th point in a 6-0 win over HEWS. Harman (HEWS) making 52 saves on 58 shots and Denisco getting the shutout with 10 saves.

 

Finally its Friday night and FLOP is on the road to HEWS beating them 3-0 and a shutout for Maggie Spyche with 8 saves. Sissy Harman back in goal making 20 saves o 23 shots.

 

Due to family illness Janet and Randy (NYHOL) were unable to cover games this past week. Janet’s Dad was taken to ER then ICU and now is under care at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital. We thank Bill Pavone for his stat work; anyone who was tweeting and Facebooking so we could follow the scoring and to the Lauers at CASH for helping us with the Senior Night photos. You are so helpful to us and have been since the first-ever game.
