The final two games of the WNYGVIH League regular season were played last night. With Williamsville beating Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew 4-2 and Clarence/Amherst/SweetHome taking Monsignor Martin 1-0 CASH takes second place in the Sectionals and earns a bye in the Quarterfinals of the Section VI playoffs. Williamsville sits in third place in the Section and  takes on Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca in the first game on Thursday (Feb. 1) evening at Northtowns.

Frontier/Lancaster/Orchard Park have taken first place and will play the lowest seed from the two games on Thursday. Monsignor Martin is second in the Federation, but since catholic schools don’t qualify in Sectional playoffs, they will have a “vacation” for the next couple of weeks.

Finishing out the standings are Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew in fourth; Kenmore/Grand Island in fifth and Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca in sixth. (Move everyone up one place for the League standings).

CASH’s Emma Faso passed CASH Alumnus McKenna Rushford in points and sits in 7th place in the All-Time Scoring Record Book for WNYGVIH. She has 58 goals and 47 assists for 105 points in 53 games played. This season Emma posted 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points in 17 games played.

Teammate Charleigh Rondeau is right behind her in second with 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points and in third is Williamsville’s Holly Schmelzer with 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points.

Goalie honors go to Maggie Spyche, FLOP, who finished with the best GAA at 1.47 and to Grace Harrington (MM) with the Best Save Percentage at .935. Both goalies had 3 shutouts this season. Harrington also played the most minutes at 685.30.

FLOP will be defending their 2016-7 Federation and Section VI Championship and a chance to return to the New York State Girls Varsity Championships.

The Section VI playoffs begin Thursday, Feb. 1 at Northtowns with a 4 p.m. game featuring Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca vs Williamsville and then at 5:30 p.m. Kenmore/Grand Island will take on Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew.

OnMonday, Feb. 5 Frontier/Lancaster/Orchard Park will take on the lowest seed from Thursday’s game with a 4 p.m. puck drop and then Clarence/Amherst/SweetHome will take on the second lowest seed at 5:30 p.m.

The Championship game will be played at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

The winner will then pack their bags and head off to the New York State Championship at Oswego State College on Saturday, Feb. 10 and Sunday Feb. 11. (Earlier schedules dates were incorrect).

Section VI will take on Section III at 1 p.m. and Section X will take on Section VII at 3 p.m. The Championship will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

At this time it looks like Skaneateles may be returning for a repeat. They have had a winning record all season and now head to their playoffs. Should they win and head to the States, there could be a repeat of last season’s championship. FLOP facing Skaneateles. We shall see!!!
