Hamilton College goaltender Sam Walther ’18 (Gambrills, Md./The Gunnery [Conn.]) was selected the NESCAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 5.

The award is the first for Walther this season and the fourth of her Hamilton career.

Walther didn’t allow a single goal as the Continentals (12-6-2, 8-3-1 NESCAC) won two games and tied another last week. She made 25 saves in a 2-0 win at Bowdoin College on Friday and turned away 27 shots, including four in overtime, in a scoreless tie against the Polar Bears on Saturday. Walther began the week with a 14-save performance in a 3-0 victory against SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday. Her shutout streak is at 185 minutes.

Walther leads the conference with a 0.89 goals against average, .966 save percentage and nine shutouts. On Saturday she moved into second place on the program’s all-time list with 2,103 career saves. Walther already holds the team record with 25 career shutouts.

Hamilton and Walther are on the road for a pair of NESCAC games at Amherst College on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10. The Mammoths are ranked ninth in the USCHO.com Division III Top 10 poll and are receiving votes in the D3hockey.com poll.
