US U18 and U22 Women’s Select Teams Named For 2018 Series vs. Canada

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – USA Hockey announced today that 44 players who participated in the 2018 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival have been chosen for the 2018 U.S. Under-18 and Under-22 Women’s Select Teams that will compete in a pair of three-game series against Canada occurring simultaneously Aug. 16-19 at Markin MacPhail Center in Calgary, Alberta.

The 2018 U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team roster features eight players who helped the 2018 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team earn a gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia. They are Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas), Hadley Hartmetz (Phoenixville, Pa.), Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill.), Maggie Nicholson (Minnetonka, Minn.), Casey O’Brien (Milton, Mass.), Dominique Petrie (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Sydney Shearen (Hugo, Minn.) and Makenna Webster (St. Louis, Mo.).

The 22-player roster (seven defensemen, 13 forwards and two goaltenders) features players from 13 different states. Michigan and Minnesota lead the pack with four representatives each, while three players hail from New York. California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas each have one representative.

The 2018 U.S. Under-22 Women’s Select Team roster includes two players from the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team – Cayla Barnes (Eastvale, Calif.) and Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) – as well as three members of the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team that won gold at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship – Britta Curl (Bismarck, N.D.), Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.) and Madeline Wethington (Edina, Minn.). The roster also includes six players that were members of the 2016 U.S. Under-22 Women’s Select Team – Kaitlin Burt (Lynn, Mass.), Rebecca Gilmore (Wayland, Mass.), Caitrin Lonergan (Roslindale, Mass.), Patti Marshall (Buffalo, Minn.), Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Sophia Shaver (Wayzata, Minn.).

Ten different states are represented on the 22-player roster, with Minnesota leading the way with eight players. Massachusetts has three representatives, while California, Illinois and New York have two apiece, and Alaska, Connecticut, Michigan, Missouri and North Dakota each have one.

Click here for the full U18 Series schedule and here for the full U22 Series schedule … Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.), head women’s ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth, is serving as head coach for the U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team alongside assistant coaches Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), member of the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, and Josh Sciba (Westland, Mich.), head women’s icd hockey coach at Union College … Joel Johnson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), associate head coach for the University of Minnesota women’s ice hockey program, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Under-22 Women’s Select Team alongside assistant coaches Bob Corkum (Salisbury, Mass.), former assistant coach of the NHL’s New York Islanders, and Katie Lachapelle (Lewiston, Maine), associate head women’s ice hockey coach at the College of the Holy Cross. Reagan Carey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will serve as U22 team manager and Marissa Halligan (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will serve as U18 team manager… The USA Hockey Women’s National Festival took place Aug. 6-13 in Lake Placid … USA Hockey’s international council, chaired by Gavin Regan (Potsdam, N.Y.), has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams.
