SUNRISE, Fla. – Incoming freshman goaltender Jake Kupsky (Waukesha, Wis.) was chosen by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft held today at the BB&T Center.

Kupsky (age 19, 6’5″, 210 lbs., shoots: L) is a big, athletic goaltender who handles the puck well. He spent the 2014-15 season with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), compiling a 19-4-4 record along with a 2.16 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. He was named to the USHL South Division All-Rookie Team, finishing sixth in the USHL in goals against average and 12th in save percentage. Prior to joining the Brahmas, Kupsky played four seasons at Waukesha (WI) High School.

San Jose is familiar with Union goaltenders. Earlier this season, former Dutchman Troy Grosenick (2010-13) made his first appearance with the Sharks, setting an NHL record for saves (45) in a shutout debut.

Kupsky becomes the fourth Dutchman drafted in the past four years, joining Jeff Taylor (2014, Pittsburgh), Shayne Gostisbehere (2012, Philadelphia) and Tim Boyle (2012, Ottawa) as recent selections. A total of 13 Union players have been selected all-time in the NHL Draft.
