Clarkson and Colgate added NHL Draftee to incoming freshmen resumes as Noah Beck and Alex Young were selected in this past week’s NHL Entry Draft.

The St. Louis Blues made Beck their final pick in the seventh round (194th overall). The freshman found out while sitting in class at 6:41pm.

“I had practice today and class right after and I was checking the draft a bit to see a couple friends’ names and send some congratulations texts, but honestly wasn’t expecting to see my name there but I couldn’t be more excited right now,” Beck said via Zoom.

“I like to think I’m a two-way defenseman and a puck-mover first. I like to think I’m a good skater.

A 6’3″ 194 lb. defenseman, Beck was the top offensive defenseman for the USHL’s Fargo Force last season (after leaving St. Michael’s in the OJHL) with 27 points and voted the teams Rookie of the Year.  The Richmond Hill, Ontario native is currently enrolled in the Reh School of Business at Clarkson.

Beck becomes the second Golden Knight ever drafted by the Blues (Paul Karpowich ’08 #185) and the 83rd Clarkson hockey player to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft.

Later in the seventh round the San Jose Sharks selected Colgate freshman Alex Young 196th overall.

The former AJHL Rookie of the Year and three-time AJHL All-Star, the 5-11, 180 lb. forward totaled 206 points in 172 regular season games in the AJHL. The center most recently tallied 82 points by 36 goals and 46 assists in 53 regular season games played with Canmore in the 2019-20 season.

He becomes the 35th player in Raider history to be drafted, and the second on the active roster, joining fellow freshman Carter Gylander, who was taken 191st overall by Detroit in 2019.
