Statesmen Move Up To 11th In The Nation

The Hobart College hockey team moved up to No. 11 in Division III in both the USCHO.com poll and the D3hockey.com poll this week.

The Statesmen improved to 6-2-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the NEHC with two league wins over Skidmore last weekend. Junior Jonas Toupal led Hobart with three goals in the weekend series with the Thoroughbreds and earned a spot on the NEHC honor roll for his efforts.

Toupal ranks third in the NEHC with a team-high eight goals and is sixth in the conference with 12 points. Sophomore Lawson MacDougall has registered a team-high nine assists, which is tied for fourth in the NEHC. Senior Frank Oplinger and sophomore Alexander Connal have split time in goal this year. Connal has a 1.77 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and a 3-1-1 record, while Oplinger is sporting a 1.95 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and a 3-1-1 record.

The Statesmen lead the NEHC and are tied for 15th in Division III on the power play (23.4%). Hobart is second in the conference and tied for 18th in the nation in scoring offense (3.60) and second in the NEHC and 12th in the country in scoring defense (1.90).

The Statesmen travel to play two non-league games at No. 3 Trinity this weekend. The teams will meet on Friday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and then play again on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m.

The Bantams have a 6-0-1 overall record and are coming off a 3-3 tie with Amherst on Sunday. Liam Feeney leads the team with nine points on two goals and seven assists. James Callahan has chipped in a team-high eight assists. Alex Morin has played the majority of minutes in goal. He is sporting a 1.19 goals against average, a .955 save percentage and a 4-0-1 record.
