BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women’s ice hockey team earned its first overtime tie of the season with a 2-2 comeback result against the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday night.

The Polar Bears are still in search of their first win and sit at 0-6-1. The Huskies received outstanding goaltending to force the tie and leave with a 3-4-3 mark.

Game Highlights

Bowdoin got on the board 2:36 into the game after pinning the Huskies in their own zone for the opening minutes. Tala Glass fired a shot from the top left and Jess Cloutier deflected the puck. Marissa Fichter tracked down Cloutier’s tip at the left post and put the puck away.
The Huskies evened the game seconds after killing a power play in the second period. Junior Grace Simmons (Buffalo, N.Y.) left the box and immediately received a feed from senior Jenson Hamblett (Hinesburg, Vt.). Simmons was behind the Bowdoin defense and skated in for an uncontested shot on goal and converted for her first career goal.
With 40 seconds remaining in the period, Southern Maine took the lead. Following a faceoff in the Bowdoin end, junior Jill Hannigan (Portland, Maine) plucked the puck off a Bowdoin player’s stick and flicked a shot over Dani Marquez’s blocker.
Bowdoin earned back-to-back power plays midway through the third and evened the game at 10:39, converting on the second opportunity. Fichter controlled the puck behind the net and passed up to Glass on the right point. Glass slid the puck left to Nell Fusco who fired a slapshot past USM senior goalie Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I).
By the Numbers

Evangelista kept the Huskies in the game with a 46-save performance.
Marquez made 15 stops in her second collegiate start.
Bowdoin went 1-for-4 on the power play. USM was 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
