Plattsburgh’s Annie Katonka Named NEWHL Player of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate student forward Annie Katonka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) of Plattsburgh State has been named the Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 16, 2022, as announced by the conference office.

Katonka registered four points on three goals and an assist while fashioning a +3 rating in a 2-0-0 week for the Cardinals. She scored twice, including the game winner, and added an assist in a 5-2 victory over Oswego State on Friday before tacking on an insurance goal at 15:13 of the third period in a 4-0 win over SUNY Morrisville on Saturday. For the season, Katonka leads the NEWHL in power-play goals (four) and plus-minus rating (+22) while ranking second in goals (14) and fourth in points (21).

Plattsburgh State (12-2-0, 9-0-0 NEWHL), which is ranked at No. 2 in the DCU/USCHO.com Women’s Division III Top-10 Poll, next hosts Oswego State on Friday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.
