Sick of being a tourist? Why not teach English overseas and experience the real culture of a country!

Are you tired of the daily work-ritual and want to try something different?  Or perhaps the desire for a new adventure and the dream to travel overseas are constantly in the back of your mind?

Imagine working a few hours in the morning and then sunning yourself for the afternoon on a sandy white beach in Rio de Janeiro!  Or heading out on a Friday after work to experience the fabulous sights and sounds of Bangkok’s nightlife.  Or climbing the Great Wall of China on the weekend with a group of friends from work!

If this sounds good to you, then maybe you should consider becoming a teacher of English and join the thousands of other Australians around the world who are having the time of their lives teaching English as a foreign language – get paid to travel and experience another culture!

Sophie Marshall, of Teach International (a Registered Training Organisation that trains people in English teaching methods), said that teaching English overseas allows people to be more than the average tourist and really experience the culture of the country.

“There are many jobs available in so many countries. People can really choose where they want to work, how much money they need to earn, what kind of place they want to live in, and what type of cultural adventure they would like to have.

“The idea of gaining a unique cultural experience and taking a break from the ‘norm’ is what attracts many people to do the course and to take up the teaching option.

“You can use your current experience and/or qualification to become a teacher of English.  You do not have to be working in the Education sector.  All that’s needed is fluency in English, an English-teaching certificate such as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate, and, of course, a need for adventure,” Ms Triggs said

“You can become a qualified teacher of English overseas within a couple of months.

“Often the hardest part is deciding where to go…China, Turkey, Costa Rica, Russia, Cambodia, Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam, Hungary, Mexico!”

Learning to teach English is simple and the courses run by Teach International are fun and interactive, comprising an in-class component of three evenings and a weekend, 60 hours over the Internet, plus a practical teaching component.

The most popular course is the Certificate III in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) – 30502QLD, with the next course starting in Canberra from 27-31 August, 2008.

Students receive full support during and after the course, and the innovative online student centre provides teaching resources, travel information, country guides, and ongoing job-search assistance.

If this sounds like the exciting change you have been looking for, Teach International is running free information sessions on Monday 7 & 21 July and Tuesday 5 & 19 August at the Quality Hotel Dickson, Cnr Badham and Cape Streets, Dickson from 6-7pm.

If you cannot make it to an information session, Teach International has produced an interactive DVD, designed to give you a sample of the wonderful experiences and adventures you can have teaching English overseas. It is full of grad interviews, the in-class course experience, a
mini-information session and overseas footage from our grads.

To book into the free information session or to have an information kit posted to you, please call 1300 558 890, or visit Teach International’s website www.teachinternational.com for information on overseas teaching opportunities, specific country details, as well as all upcoming information sessions and course dates in Canberra.
