AMHERST – It was the tale of two games or teams Friday night at the Northtown Center. The first team, West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden won the first part of the game, 3-0.

The second team, Monsignor Martin, came alive in the third period of the same game, tied it 3-3 and then won it in OT, 4-3. This was the second game of a three-game evening to eventually determine the 2017 WNYGVIHF champion.

Ironically, if there was a  player of the game it was the eighth grader in the nets for WS/H/E: Lauryn Brown. Brown faced 59 shots, stopping 55 of them, in a losing effort.

WS/H/E opened the scoring in the first period, with the lone goal of the stanza being scored by Kaira Patterson. Assisting on the goal was Tori Letteri and Katelyn Morris.

WS/H/E increased their lead in the second period to 3-0 on a pair of goals by Morris. Her first goal was assisted by Patterson and Letteri, while her second came unassisted.

Monsignor Martin came roaring back in the third period. Sophie Robinson made it 3-1 at 1:56. Then at the 3:15 mark Kaitlin Drew-Mead brought MM within one.

Five minutes later MM tied the score, 3-3, on a goal by Kayla Blas. Finally at the 2:32 mark of OT Blas scored again to give MM the win.
