Former Canisius forward Dylan McLaughlin has been chosen as the recipient of the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Individual Sportsmanship Award as the league announced its major award winners for the 2018-19 regular season on Thursday.

The honor completes an already impressive awards haul for the Lancaster, N.Y., native as he becomes the first Canisius player to be recognized as the most gentlemanly player in the AHA. A three-time All-AHA selection, McLaughlin was named both the AHA Player of the Year and the league scoring champion last season on his way to being selected as a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.

A native of Lancaster, N.Y., McLaughlin was one of the top players in the AHA this season, garnering All-AHA First Team accolades for the second consecutive season after ranking among the league leaders in both goals (17/2nd) and points (33/4th).

The high-scoring forward was particularly effective on the power play, placing fourth among all league players in both power-play goals (7) and power-play points (13). McLaughlin, who ranked among the league leaders with three game-winning goals, was also among the least-penalized players in the AHA as he was whistled for just one minor penalty in 28 league contests.

McLaughlin signed his first professional contract on March 13, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with the Rockford IceHogs, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks.
