The Montreal Canadians selected Baldwinsville native Luke Tuch with the 47th overall selection in the second-round of the virtual 2020 NHL Draft.

Tuch was slotted 35th overall and 40th among North American skaters. The 6’2”, 203 lb. left wing and brother of former Minnesota first rounder and Las Vegas Knights forward Alex Tuch played this past season for the U.S. National Team Development Program in Michigan. The Boston University commit didn’t maintain the offensive pace of the first half of the season and finished with 23 goals and 44 points over 66 games.

“Last year I focused on my size a lot,” Tuch said on a Zoom interview. “I’m 6’2” and I think I play a power forward game and I think I have that physical and competitive edge to my game.

“Alex was a great mentor for me growing up. He’s about six years older than me, but we were really close growing up…so we were really competitive growing up and I think that rally built my competitive spirit in hockey.

“Our personalities are completely different on the ice. I would say that I have more of a physical edge to my game. I think I play like Jamie Benn…and I think my mentality going into games is like Matthew Tkachuk, so I like to get in players’ faces and mix it up a little bit.

“Growing up I was surrounded by a lot of hockey players and my next-door neighbor was (former Islander and Sabres forward) Tim Connelly.”
