Four years ago Bethany Horvatits and Jersey Phillips came on to the ice for Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew, known as LID. They immediately began making an impact on and ice and in the locker room. This is their final season as high school varsity hockey players as they move on to new chapters in their lives.

Horvatits came in as a freshman from Iroquois Central. She was named Alternate Captain in her Senior Year due to her leadership and dedication to hockey. She was also a member of the Iroquois Soccer and Field Hockey team in her sophomore year. She received “Athlete of the Week” honors from Iroquois twice in her tenure at the school.

Horvatits plans to attend Buffalo State College next season and play for the Women’s Bengals. Her major will be biology. Horvatits is the daughter of David and Anna.

Phillips comes from Depew High School and also began LID in her freshman year. She is currently the captain of the LID team due to her leadership skills.

In addition to ice hockey, Phillips played six seasons with the Depew Golf Team and has been on the Depew High Honor Roll every semester and was named Scholar Athlete in the Fall of 2019.

Phillips will join the Mercyhurst University Women’s Ice Hockey Team next season where she will continue her education in the field of Intelligence Studies.

She is the daughter of Chris and Trinity Phillips.

Janet has been covering women's hockey for over 35 years. Along with a 38 year career in Public Relations and over 40 years photographing sports, she found a passion in women's hockey. Her initial story was on the founding of the Niagara University D1 program, she expanded to collegiate and youth and was active in the founding and promoting of the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation. When Professional Women's Hockey hit the ice she was there, one of the first to release the story in WNY. Along with her husband, Randy, people comment that if there's hockey, the Schultz's are there!
