The Lancaster/Iroquois Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team will advance to the semi-finals of the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation playoffs after defeating Amherst/Sweet Home (Katz) 5-2 at Northtown Center last night (Thursday, Jan. 29)

Lancaster opened the scoring at 4:56 of the first period with a goal by Turcotte, assisted by Nobles and Weppner. (Sorry girls, I don’t have a roster with full names). At 5:25 Colucci put in Lancaster’s second but at 20:48 Amherst/Sweet Home’s Renee Lauer dropped in an unassisted goal and ended the first period 2-1 in favor of Lancaster/Iroquois.

The second period scoring was opened by Katz when Captain McKenna Rushford got one past Maddy Norton at the 2:05 mark, assisted by Samantha Czora and McKenna Witkowski. Both Lancaster and Katz had their first penalities of the game, tripping and interference, respectively and the period ended 2-2.

The tie didn’t remain long into the third period when Lancaster/Iroquois Renault dropped in an unassisted goal and it turned out to be the winner. Nobles and another player put in one each to secure the 5-2 victory.
