Canisius forward Nick Hutchison has been named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month for December, league officials announced.

A native of Hicksville, N.Y., Hutchison tallied four goals and three assists in helping guide the Griffs to a 2-2 record during the final month of 2019.

He began December with a power-play goal during the team’s series finale at defending champion AIC on Dec. 7 before returning from break with a six-point weekend in a sweep of Atlantic Hockey foe Holy Cross to finish out the calendar year.

Hutchison opened the weekend series versus the Crusaders with a goal and two assists in a 5-2 victory before following that performance with another three-point effort, this time notching two goals, including the game-winner, and one assist in the series finale.

Named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week for his efforts, Hutchison reached a personal milestone during the Holy Cross series as his insurance marker in game two was the 50th goal of his career, making him one of just six players in the Division I era of the program to reach the milestone in their career. He is also approaching another significant milestone as he sits just five points away from reaching the 100-point plateau for his career.

Undefeated in its last four contests, Canisius (5-12-1, 4-7-1) begins a stretch that will see them play seven of their next eight away from home with a two-game Atlantic Hockey series at Bentley Jan. 9-10. Start time for both games of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. at Bentley Arena in Waltham, Mass.
