Hobart Send Three to NHL

Former Hobart College defensemen Brad Richard ’13 (New Bedford, Mass.) and Harry Radovich ’13 (Rumson, N.J.) have recently signed with professional hockey teams. Additionally, former Statesmen hockey operations assistant Andrew Mason ’13 is now working for the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets.

 

Richard signed with the Alaska Aces of the East Coast Hockey League Richard. A two-year captain for the Statesmen, he was tabbed the ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year last year and was named an AHCA East All-American. A four-year All-ECAC West honoree, Richard anchored the Statesmen defense that ranked first in the ECAC West and sixth in the nation allowing an average of just 1.85 goals per game. He logged four goals and seven assists for 11 points in his senior season.

 

Richard played in 97 career games at Hobart and registered 22 goals and 42 assists for 64 points. He received ECAC West All-USCHO.com honors twice and earned a spot on the ECAC West All-Tournament team after helping the Statesmen to their second ever ECAC West Tournament title in 2012.

 

Radovich signed with the Florida Everbaldes, who are also members of the ECHL. He played in 25 games for Hobart last year. Radovich ranked third on the team with 15 assists and added a goal for 16 points. He notched a season-high three assists in an 8-1 rout of Hamilton College.

 

The three-time ECAC West All-Academic selection played in 90 career games and posted six goals and 36 assists for 42 points.

 

Mason served as Hobart hockey’s operations assistant in all four of his years at Hobart. In late August, he began working as the hockey operations intern for the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. Mason deals primarily with the Amateur Scouting Department. His main responsibilities include breaking down video of players who are currently on the Blue Jacket’s top 100 prospects list who will be eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft. Mason prepares the video for the team’s general manager and scouts to review and assists them in their day-to-day duties.

 

“I really enjoy being able to work closely with an NHL team and the top executives in hockey operations as well as being a part of an organization that is on the rise,” said Mason.

 

These signings are the most recent for Hobart hockey. In August, goalie Nick Broadwater ’13 and defenseman Mike White ’13 signed with professional hockey teams in Europe.
