Junior Kyle Gibbons (Westlake, Ohio) of the Canisius College hockey team collected third-team All-Atlantic Hockey honors, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Gibbons leads the Griffs with 36 points, 18 goals and 18 assists this season. His 38 points are currently the seventh-most in the program’s Division I record book, while his 18 goals are tied for fifth. Gibbons also ranks fifth in Atlantic Hockey in points and fourth in goals, while placing 50th nationally with 0.92 points per game and 25th with 0.46 goals per game.

The Westlake, Ohio native has been one of the hottest players in the country after a slow start to the season. The junior did not record a point until Nov. 10 but his 36 points since then rank ninth in the country with his 18 tallies placing seventh. In addition, Gibbons ranks second nationally with 28 points since the beginning of 2013.

During his career, Gibbons has totaled 85 points, 39 goals and 46 assists in 108 games. The junior places 11th in the program’s record book with his 85 career points and eighth with his 39 career goals.

Gibbons has helped Canisius advance to the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals for the third time in the program’s history this season. The seventh-seeded Griffs will square off with top-seeded and local rival Niagara on Friday at 4:05 p.m. with a spot in the league’s championship game on the line.
