UTICA, NY- Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the ECAC West Goalie of the Week, Monday, after her stellar performance last weekend.
Goin turned aside 44-of-45 shots she faced to help the Pioneers sweep William Smith College in their conference opener. On Saturday, she stopped all 17 shots to pick up her third career shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Herons. She followed that up with 27 saves as Utica topped William Smith 6-1 on Sunday. On the season, she ranks fifth nationally in both save percentage (.975) and goals against average (.67).
The Pioneers (4-0, 2-0 ECAC West) are off to their best start since 2006. Utica returns to action next weekend as it takes on conference opponent Oswego State in a home-and-home series. The teams will faceoff at Oswego on Saturday, before traveling to Utica on Sunday to wrap up the weekend. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m.
