Frankel, Scamurra Named to Team USA

New York natives Aerin Frankel and Hayley Scamurra have been named to the 2022 Team USA that will represent the US at the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship August 25 through September 5 in Herning and Frederikshavn, Denmark.

The team returns 18 players, Scamurra being one, including Cayla Barnes (Eastvale, Calif.), Hannah Brandt (Vadnis Heights, Minn.), Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), Jesse Compher (Northbrook, Ill.), Kendall Coyne Schofield (Palos Heights, Ill.), Jincy Dunne (O’Fallon, Mo.), Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, Ill.), Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H.), Nicole Hensley (Lakewood, Colo.), Megan Keller (Farmington Hills, Mich.), Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.), Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho), Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.), Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.), Abby Roque (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Hayley Scamurra (Getzville, N.Y.), Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) and Grace Zumwinkle (Excelsior, Minn.).

The roster also features Lacey Eden (Annapolis, Md.) and  Frankel (Chappaqua, N.Y.), both of whom were a part of the 2021 U.S. Women’s National Team. 

Newcomers Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas), Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.), Rory Guilday (Chanhassen, Minn.) will all represent the Team USA as a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team for the first time.

 “We had an incredibly competitive week at this year’s national festival,” Katie Million, USA Hockey ‘s Director of Women’s National Programs said.

“Choosing a team is never easy, but these 23 players earned the right to put on the U.S. jersey. We’re excited to bring this team to Denmark, as we look to take home a women’s world championship title.” 

“I am excited to officially have our team as we continue to prepare for women’s worlds,” John Wroblewski, head coach of the 2022 U.S. Women’s National Team said. “As a staff, we are confident in the skill and grit of this team and are excited to begin our journey to achieve our goals in Denmark.” 

This year marks forward Hilary Knight’s 12th women’s world championship appearance, the most in USA Hockey history, and Kendall Coyne Schofield’s ninth appearance. Seven players hail from the state of Minnesota, three from Illinois, two from Michigan and New York and one from California, Colorado, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Texas.
