Elmira College’s Granato and Lahey Named CCM/AHCA First-Team All-Americans

2019 Division III CCM Hockey/AHCA All-Americans

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — After guiding the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team to a second consecutive United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) title and a trip to the Quarterfinals of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship, seniors Katie Granato ’19 and Meg Lahey ’19 were named First Team CCM Hockey/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-Americans. The full list of CCM Hockey/AHCA All-Americans was announced on Thursday, March 14, on the campus of St. Thomas University, the final-four site of the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship.

“I am excited that both received All-American honors, as both were deserving of the award,” said head coach Tim Crowley. “Both Meg and Katie not only had a good year, but they also had good careers for us. They improved each year and it showed. They were leaders on-and-off of the ice this year and I know both of them would thank their teammates first in getting these awards.”

Granato, who was named the 2019 UCHC Player of the Year earlier this season, was the driving force behind Elmira’s high-octane offense. She paced the Purple and Gold with 45 points on 26 goals and 19 assists. It marked the second consecutive season she produced 20-plus goals and 40-plus points in a single season, as both totals this year were career highs for the Naperville, Illinois, native.

Her 26 goals are sixth-most in EC single-season history, while her 45 points are tied for 11th-most. Career-wise, Granato is fourth all-time in goals (73), eighth in career points (133) and third in power-play goals (22).

Currently, Granato ranks fourth in the country in points per game (1.61), fourth in goals per game (0.93) and is tied for third in power-play goals (9).

Lahey, the 2019 UCHC Defensive Player of the Year, had a breakout season from the blue line, as she nearly matched her career point total during the 2018-19 campaign. The Latham, New York, native finished her senior year with career highs in points (30) and assists (27), and tied her career high in goals (3).

She was one of five Soaring Eagles to log 30 points this season and was the only defender on EC’s roster to do so. Lahey became the first defender to score 30 points in a season since former AHCA First-Team All-American Brooke Wilgosh ’15 in 2015. Lahey is one of just four defensive skaters in Elmira’s storied history to reach the 30-point plateau in a single season, joining the likes of Wilgosh, Jamie Kivi ’10 and LeAnne Denman ’05.

Lahey currently ranks among the best in country in several statistical categories. She is second in the country in points per game by defensemen (1.07) and fifth in the country in assists per game (0.96).

For Lahey and Granato, it is the first CCM Hockey/AHCA All-American awards of their collegiate careers. The senior standouts become the 14th and 15th individuals in Elmira’s history to receive All-American status and bring EC’s count of All-American awards to 25.
