CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly award winners, and Nick Abruzzese (Harvard), Ian Shane (Cornell), Ondrej Psenicka (Cornell), and Kyler Kovich (Cornell) have all been honored for the week ending January 9, 2022.

Driscoll Skating & Skills Player of the Week

In the Crimson’s lone game of the week, Abruzzese (Jr. – Slate Hill, N.Y.) registered a three point night, scoring and assisting twice in a win over Union. He found the back of the net on the power play in the opening frame, while his assists came on the first and last goals in a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. In his teams last three games, the Harvard captain has registered nine points on three goals and six assists.

MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week

For the second consecutive week, Shane (Fr. – Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earns Goalie of the Week honors. In his first two collegiate starts this weekend, the freshman backstopped Cornell to a sweep at North Dakota, marking thee first time since UND’s program started in 1946 that an ECAC Hockey program has swept a two-game set at the Fighting Hawks. He finished the weekend with 55 saves on 59 shots, boasting a .932 save percentage.

Rookies of the Week

Psenicka (Fr. – Praha, Czeech Republic) factored into three of Cornell’s seven goals in this weekend’s sweep of North Dakota. He assisted on two of the Big Red’s three third-period tallies to help cap off a late comeback on Friday,  before scoring the eventual game-winner in Saturday’s 3-1 victory. He was also strong on the defensive end, and was not on the ice for any goals against this weekend.

Kovich (Fr. – Coquitlam, B.C.) was also instrumental in Cornell’s big weekend, scoring a goal in each game at North Dakota. His tally on Friday was a big one, as the scored the game-winner with 5:49 remaining to cap off a third period comeback. He found the back of the net again on Saturday, this time tying the game at 1-1 in the first period of a game the Big Red would go on to win, 3-1.
